1 Dead, 5 Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision With Pedestrians

Los Angeles Police Department investigators are still investigating the circumstances behind a recent wreck in North Hollywood.

In the collision, a female pedestrian, 63, died, while five more were hurt. The injured included three children walking along with their grandmother, the woman identified by KTLA as their grandmother, who was a resident of the Valley Glen neighborhood.

Events unfolded around 4:20 p.m. on the last Saturday in April. A resident of Van Nuys, age 56, driving a 2011 BMW headed west on Vanowen Street but crashed into a 2003 Ford Mustang being driven by a resident of Panorama City. Both vehicles were headed in the same direction, according to a Valley Traffic Division Officer with the LAPD.

Both cars lost control after the initial impact before colliding with numerous parked cars. Then the BMW careened into pedestrians on the Vanowen Street sidewalk.

The woman was critically injured and died at the hospital. Her grandchildren, ages 7, 8, and 13, suffered injuries classified as minor to serious. The drivers of the two cars involved in the accident both had minor injuries.

Officials are still determining the reason for the crash and who was to blame; no one has been cited or arrested.

Those suffering from injuries from accidents with at-fault drivers, whether they were passengers, pedestrians or other drivers, may need to file claims for damages with the insurance companies of the at-fault drivers. Regardless of whether or not criminal charges are filed in the accidents, it is possible to receive compensation for injuries, medical bills and associated costs, pain, suffering, lost wages, and other torts.
