Hurst Fire Lawyers
Were You Displaced by the Hurst Fire?
The Hurst Fire did not spread as far as the Palisades Fire or the Eaton Fire in Southern California, but it still affected thousands of people who were forced out of their homes and businesses during evacuations. Like the Eaton Fire, power line failures are believed to be the cause of the Hurst Fire.
Were you displaced by the Hurst Fire, forcing you to seek temporary housing and possibly close your business for days? You could have the grounds needed to file a claim against the utility company in charge of the maintenance of power lines around Sylmar. Greene Broillet & Wheeler, LLP and our California wildfire attorneys are waiting to hear from you and determine what legal action you can take to pursue justice and compensation for your hardships and losses.

Details of the Hurst Fire
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) reports that the Hurst Fire:
- Began on January 7, 2025.
- Spread to nearly 800 acres before reaching 100% containment.
- Prompted multi-day evacuations around northern-northwestern Sylmar.
How Did the Hurst Fire Start?
Cal Fire still needs to finish its investigation of the Hurst Fire and its origins before it can release an official report. Initial information points to an issue with power line maintenance in the area, though.
Most Sylmar residents did not lose power on January 7, 2025, even as 80 mph winds (as strong as an F1 tornado) buffeted the area. Typically, utility companies with above-ground power lines will de-energize those lines during extreme winds. This information suggests that power lines were not de-energized properly or quickly enough, resulting in the Hurst Fire.
Damages Caused by the Hurst Fire
Although Cal Fire reports that no structures were destroyed and no lives were lost in the Hurst Fire, the wildfire still caused disruptions and damages to people in the area. Abrupt evacuations are terrifying and can also be costly.
People with Hurst Fire claims may be able to seek compensation related to:
- Expenses related to evacuating
- Costs related to temporary housing or renting hotel rooms
- Lost wages if unable to work during evacuations
- Lost business value experienced by business owners
- Emotional trauma suffered due to the fire and hectic evacuations
