Coroner’s Report Released After Paul Walker Crash

Details have been released of the Santa Clarita car accident which killed movie star, Paul Walker. The Fast and Furious actor and his friend Rodger Rodas were traveling at over 100mph when their Porsche Carrera crashed into a curb, light pole, and two trees. The car then burst into flames, burning both severely.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that the actor was alive when the vehicle caught fire and that the actor died from a combination of traumatic and thermal injuries.

Walker reportedly suffered a broken jaw, collarbone, pelvis, and spine. The coroner determined that he was still alive at the time of the fire because there were traces of soot in his trachea.

Rodas was killed instantly upon impact and suffered a broken jaw, ribs, and pelvis, in addition to skull fractures. Both bodies were burned beyond recognition.

Both men tested negative for drugs and alcohol and investigators believe that speeding was the primary cause of the accident.

Although it is unclear why Rodas lost control of the vehicle, the Los Angeles Times reports that the Porsche Carrera GT is notoriously hard to drive. The car is capable of speeds up to 100mph in seven seconds and does not have the vehicle stability system that most Porsche cars have.

Engineers from the automaker will travel to L.A. this month to help detectives with the investigation.
