Authorities say that drag racing was a factor in several California crashes
Drag racing has been popular in California for decades and authorities say that this dangerous pastime is a contributing factor in several recent crashes.
Investigators in Woodland Hills say that a recent crash at Ventura Boulevard and Oakdale Avenue was caused by a street racer. The accident happened Thursday evening shortly before 10 p.m. and resulted in a head-on crash.
Four people had to be extricated from the vehicles, KABC-TV reports.
“Fire department dispatched a full physical rescue assignment to extricate the people out of their vehicle. We were able to get the people out of the vehicle in short order,” said Los Angeles County Fire Chief Brian Schultz.
On Tuesday morning, a drag race in San Jose resulted in a car slamming into a home. Authorities say that two cars were speeding on San Jose’s Cropley Avenue when a third car entered the road, causing an accident and sending one of the speed racers into a home.
The occupants of the home managed to escape safety and authorities will likely charge both drivers with reckless driving.
