Pedestrians are very vulnerable on Los Angeles roads. They are the most exposed to motorists and dangerous conditions. When a driver is negligent or reckless and causes an accident, the damage to a pedestrian can be quite substantial. In these types of accidents, it can be common for a victim to suffer extremely serious injuries such as a spinal cord injury.
Beginning with a blow to the spine, injuries to the spinal cord can result in broken or dislocated vertebrae. This type of damage can cause paralysis or upset the communication between the spinal cord and the brain. In many cases, this damage can be permanent.
Victims of serious injury likely face an enormous challenge going forward. Their lives change. Their ability to work may be affected. It is because of the serious nature of these accidents that the people who cause them should be punished appropriately.
In the past couple years, actress Lindsay Lohan has had more than her fair share of run-ins with the law. A little over a year ago, Lohan was reportedly driving recklessly when she struck a pedestrian. The victim recently decided to file a lawsuit against the actress.
According to statements, Lohan ran a red light and struck a woman who was crossing the street. The woman who was hit says she has since suffered unspecified serious and disabling injuries. Whether the crash caused damage to her spinal cord is still unknown. Her ability to work has suffered and she has numerous medical bills as a result of getting hit.
If Lohan is found to be guilty of the accident, it is important that she be properly penalized for her recklessness. People who are not held liable for causing great bodily harm to someone may continue with their dangerous behavior, which puts more people in harm’s way.
